Young Perspectives on Smart Textiles | School Class in the DigiMok with Workshop on AI and Coding

In the DigiMok – the Digital Mobile Classroom – school classes gain hands-on insights into the connection between coding, artificial intelligence, and textile design. In a workshop, students are introduced to the basics of programming and learn how to use AI as a creative tool. Working in small groups and using tablets, the students design their own embroidery patterns, which are digitally transferred to an embroidery machine and brought to life on fabric. From 7th-9th of May, over the course of two days, several school classes had the opportunity to try it out while the DigiMok was stationed at Chemnitz’s Opera Square.

The format is supervised by Thomas Schmidt, Executive Board Member of fjs e.V. and head of DigiMok. For him, artificial intelligence is a real innovation driver for the creative and fashion industries: “AI opens up low-threshold access to design – even without in-depth technical knowledge, individuals can bring their own ideas to life and receive intelligent support in the design process.” Especially in fashion design, this enables a decentralized and collaborative way of working, allowing regional locations like Chemnitz to operate in networks alongside international metropolises such as Paris or New York.

The DigiMok is also part of the FashionTEX Festival in Chemnitz. More information at www.fashiontex.eu.
