Scanning, printing, knitting, animating, and completely reimagining fashion – Two creative weeks in Riga

Scanning, printing, knitting, animating, and completely reimagining fashion: for 14 days, the FashionTEX Makerspace 2026 in Riga became a testing ground for 24 young fashion talents from 11 European universities. From August 31 to September 12, they worked with new technologies, traditional techniques, and international experts to develop their own ideas for the future of fashion.

The program featured CLO3D and 3D fashion simulation, 3D scanning and printing, laser cutting, digital knitting and embroidery, and AI-based creative tools. International experts guided the students through workshops on digital design, animation, textile technologies, video editing, and storytelling, as well as the process of transforming digital designs into actual garments.

It was not just about new technologies, but above all about experimentation and bridging the gap between digital and physical fashion: digital designs became prototypes, new manufacturing techniques were combined with classic craftsmanship, and individual ideas were further developed in collaboration with international mentors.

After two intense weeks, the creative journey continues: the results of the Makerspace will be presented to an international audience at the FashionTEX Festival 2026 in Riga—ranging from physical garments and digital fashion to prototypes, experimental materials, and audiovisual works.
The Riga Makerspace 2026 demonstrated what FashionTEX stands for: connecting European talent, sharing knowledge, and collaboratively developing new ideas for the future of fashion.
