FashionTEX Makerspace 2025 launched in Schneeberg
From September 1 to 13, 2025, Schneeberg will be transformed into a center for pioneering fashion design. As part of the FashionTEX Makerspace 2025, 24 students from eleven European partner universities will further develop their virtually designed collections – and bring them into the physical world using cutting-edge technologies. The focus will be on connecting digital technologies with the textile craftsmanship native to the Saxon textile region.
Makerspace 2025 will combine digital manufacturing methods such as CLO3D, 3D scanning, 3D printing, motion capture, laser cutting, and digital embroidery with the region’s rich textile tradition. Participants can, for example, digitally capture hand-woven fabrics or process intricate embroidery patterns using lasers. This creates a creative interplay between innovation and tradition – and a laboratory for the future of the entire industry.
Workshops with international experts
The first week will focus on workshops. Industry professionals teach skills in digital design tools, texturing, knitting and embroidery techniques, as well as the creative direction of physical and digital fashion shows. In the second week, students put their ideas into practice – supported by mentors.
Presentation at the FashionTEX Festival in Chemnitz
The works created in the makerspace will be presented at the FashionTEX Festival on November 6 and 7, 2025, in Chemnitz. Physical prototypes and digital productions will be on display – a highlight of the official program of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
