“The combination of fashion and technology completely fascinated me” – Linda Kozina on creativity, 3D printing, and new perspectives in the makerspace.

22-year-old fashion design student Linda Kozina is in her third year of her bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Textile Technology at the University of Zagreb. In the Makerspace, she discovered not only new technical possibilities but also a new way of thinking about fashion – digitally, creatively, and collaboratively.

Linda Kozina, you are a third-year fashion design student at the University of Zagreb. What new skills or insights have you gained in the Makerspace, perhaps even beyond the technical aspects?

Linda Kozina: I discovered many new skills – especially how differently people think and approach tasks. Everyone had a different approach to problem-solving, and I found that incredibly exciting. The opportunity to work with 3D printing was particularly fascinating for me. That was something completely new and broadened my perspective on design.

Was there a moment when you thought, “This is an ‘aha’ moment” or “This is a truly innovative approach”?

Linda Kozina: Yes, that was the moment I saw the fashion show. That’s when it became clear to me: This is it. This combination of technology, creativity, and fashion was absolutely inspiring for me.

Did you make new contacts with other students or universities through the Makerspace?

Linda Kozina: Absolutely. The people I met there, from the experts to the other students, have become very dear to me. I made many new contacts and friendships that I hope will last beyond the project.

What was the biggest personal challenge for you while working in the Makerspace, and how did you overcome it?

Linda Kozina: I encountered many things that I experienced for the first time. At our faculty, we don’t have such modern technological possibilities or programs yet, so much of it was uncharted territory for me. But that’s exactly what made it exciting; I simply worked my way through it step by step and learned a lot through trial and error.

What specific insights or results are you taking away from working on your avatar or outfit?

Linda Kozina: I really learned a lot, for example, how to properly adjust the properties of a garment or digitally design fashion accessories. It was amazing to see how small adjustments can make a big visual difference.

Was there a moment that positively surprised or particularly inspired you?

Linda Kozina: Yes, actually the whole atmosphere! Experiencing so many creative people in one place was a huge inspiration. The exchange with them motivated me to work even more boldly and experimentally.

Which technical tools did you work with the most, and what did you learn from them?

Linda Kozina: I worked most with 3D printers. I printed a crown and other accessories for my design. It was fascinating to see how a digital concept is transformed into a real object.

What result of your work in the Makerspace are you particularly proud of?

Linda Kozina: Actually, everything. I learned something new in every area, and that helped me a lot to improve and perfect my design. Every small step forward was a success for me.
