“Technology doesn’t replace creativity – it enhances it.” Giovanni Delija on digital fashion, team spirit, and new forms of expression.

25-year-old Giovanni Delija studies at the Accademia Internazionale d’Alta Moda Koefia in Rome, one of Italy’s most prestigious fashion schools. As part of the European FashionTEX project, he worked in the makerspace with digital design technologies, 3D visualization, and innovative tools. In this interview, Giovanni talks about teamwork, creative “aha” moments, and the exciting connection between craftsmanship and technology.

Giovanni Delija, what new skills or insights did you gain in the makerspace beyond the purely technical aspects?

Giovanni Delija: During my time in the makerspace, I not only acquired new skills in digital design but also in teamwork and creative thinking. I learned to use new digital tools and to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment, which was very inspiring.

Was there a moment when you thought, “This is truly an innovative approach”?

Giovanni Delija: Yes, absolutely. There was a moment when I realized how perfectly technology and creativity can combine, especially when working with 3D visualization. It felt like I had discovered a new form of expression for fashion design.

Did you make any new contacts with other students or universities in the makerspace?

Giovanni Delija: Yes, I met several students and professors from different universities. The exchange of ideas and collaborative project work were very enriching and motivating.

What was your biggest personal challenge while working in the makerspace, and how did you overcome it?

Giovanni Delija: The biggest challenge was learning to use new software and digital tools in a short amount of time. I overcame it by staying curious, practicing daily, and seeking advice from my teammates and tutors.

What specific result or insight did you gain from working on your avatar or outfit?

Giovanni Delija: By working on my avatar and outfit, I learned how digital design can foster creativity and precision in fashion. I understood proportions, materials, and textures in a completely new dimension.

Was there a moment that particularly inspired you?

Giovanni Delija: I was very inspired to see how differently everyone approached the tasks. This showed me how technology can expand personal expression in design.

Which technical tools did you work with the most – and what did you learn from them?

Giovanni Delija: I mainly worked with CLO 3D, Blender, and AI-based programs for visualization and design optimization. Through this, I learned how to simulate materials, use lighting effectively, and create professional 3D environments.

What result of your work in the Makerspace are you most proud of?

Giovanni Delija: I am most proud of the digital outfit I created; it combines technical skill with artistic vision. It was very fulfilling to see my ideas come to life in a realistic digital space.

How do you want to continue after the Makerspace?

Giovanni Delija: After the Makerspace, I want to further develop my digital design skills and explore how virtual fashion can interact with traditional craftsmanship.

Are there any ideas or projects that you would like to develop further?

Giovanni Delija: Yes, I plan to further develop my project for the holo-show, focusing on how fashion can exist both physically and digitally and harmoniously connect the two worlds.

What was your biggest personal takeaway from your time in the Makerspace?

Giovanni Delija: My biggest takeaway was the realization that technology doesn’t replace creativity, but rather enhances it. This experience has given me new motivation and self-confidence for my professional path.
