Schneeberger Geflecht | Art to Experience and Participate in

The world of art thrives on creativity, experimentation, and a constant quest for innovation. One exhibition that brings all these elements together is “Schneeberger Geflecht,” created in collaboration between the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz and the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau, Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg. This exhibition which takes place from 03th April – 29th June 2025 is not just about admiring works of art; it’s about actively participating and experiencing them—a fascinating space for anyone eager to explore applied art and get creative themselves.

Art that Enriches Our Lives

“Art comes from making!”—this is the guiding principle behind the exhibition and the work of the Schneeberg University of Applied Arts. For over 146 years, the workshops at the Schneeberg University have been creating a vibrant connection between art and everyday life, producing works that bring beauty into our daily routines, shape living spaces, and forge relationships in unique ways. In the “Schneeberger Geflecht” exhibition, this creative spirit merges with the history and collections of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz. Students from the Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg have designed a hands-on exhibition that allows visitors to experience “making” for themselves. The exhibition follows the workshop principle of the university, where the creative process and craftsmanship are at the forefront.

An Interactive Experience

“Schneeberger Geflecht” is not just a title—it’s an invitation to take action. The term “Geflecht” (which means “interlace” or “weaving”) refers to the creative process of braiding, weaving, sewing, and spinning, using materials from nature as well as pre- and post-consumer waste. The result is a variety of objects: stools, chairs, bags, clothes, and much more. What makes the exhibition particularly special is its interactive approach. In the workshop area, visitors are invited to get hands-on. Here, they can try their hand at weaving, sewing, and braiding. The space encourages creativity and invites everyone to develop and implement their own ideas. It’s a call for active cultural participation and creative exchange—an excellent opportunity to not just observe art, but to create it yourself.

A Space for Collaboration

The “Schneeberger Geflecht” exhibition also represents close collaboration between different institutions and individuals. It is the result of a partnership between the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz and the West Saxon University of Zwickau, Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg. The blending of theory and practice, academic training, and creative production, makes this exhibition a one-of-a-kind experience, providing visitors with a deep insight into the world of applied art.

“Schneeberger Geflecht” is an exhibition that will captivate not only art lovers but also anyone with a desire to unleash their creativity and engage in interactive experiences. The connection between art and craft, the opportunity to participate, and the chance to experiment with creativity make this exhibition a dynamic and inspiring experience. So, if you’re looking for a place to discover and nurture your creativity, this is an exhibition you shouldn’t miss.
