Metamorphosis: When Nature Becomes a Second Skin

With “Metamorphosis,” Flavia Guerra explores the reconnection between the human body and nature. Layering, texture, and three-dimensional forms create a silhouette that is visibly undergoing transformation.

The all-white design creates a minimalist, almost weightless atmosphere. Varied materials and volumes suggest a body in transition. Leaves, veins, and branching plant structures serve as the central visual inspiration, linking the human figure with organic forms.

The look centers on a skirt intended to symbolize a return to nature. In its initial form, organza was embellished with hand-embroidered, plant-like lines; in the design’s evolution, these embroideries are replaced by three-dimensional branches.

This allows the motif to break free from the fabric’s surface and become a sculptural element of the silhouette. The branches appear to grow across the garment, evoking themes of roots, regeneration, and new connections.

The skirt is complemented by denim trousers, a matching vest, and a knitted shirt. A layering of structured and softer materials creates an interplay of contrasting textures. The knit elements are machine-made, whereas the original embroidery was crafted by hand.

“Metamorphosis” views the body as a space for transformation: nature is not merely depicted but appears to be reconnecting, step by step, with the human form.
