Frozen Liquid: When water becomes a wearable sculpture

With “Frozen Liquid,” Mykola Polonskyi translates the fluid, transparent, and mutable nature of water into a sculptural evening gown.

At the heart of the project lies the idea of capturing a fleeting moment. Droplets, waves, light reflections, and organic shapes form the visual foundation for a design that appears as though motion has been frozen in time.

The silhouette thrives on the contrast between stability and lightness. A structured corset defines the body’s shape, while soft curves and voluminous elements evoke the constant movement of water. This creates the impression of a fluid form transformed into a wearable sculpture.

The choice of materials also reflects this tension. Satin provides a smooth, reflective surface, while organza introduces transparency and movement to the look. Metal frames, Rigilene boning, and stabilizing interlinings provide the necessary structure to support the sculptural forms.

Digital technologies enhance the design through 3D-printed elements, such as transparent water droplets and floral shapes. These elements echo the fluid aesthetic, bridging natural inspiration with contemporary manufacturing.

At the same time, traditional craftsmanship remains a central component of the project. Draping, pattern making, corset construction, and handwork form the basis of the final shape, creating an interplay between precise construction and organic expression.

In this way, “Frozen Liquid” turns water into a symbol of change and adaptation, uniting nature, craftsmanship, and technology in a silhouette that straddles the line between evening wear and wearable sculpture.
